Season 42 - Newsletter Part 2

Season 42 has started! We have been thrilled to have so much interest in the League recently, and while this is the first season in quarantine to have fewer players than the one before it, the League is still far larger than any pre-coronavirus season. There have been 403 divisions in the 3 seasons since players have been in quarantine, which more than the previous 9 seasons (S31–S39) combined. It’s also about 30% of all the divisions ever in the League. The diversity of player skills means we can continue to build divisions with competitive matches, and has also led...

Setup Details and Minor Rules Changes

Season 41 has started! This is the first ten-tier season, just two seasons after the first eight-tier season. To illustrate how big of a change this has been, in just six months, the F tier has gone from the bottom third of the League all the way to the top quarter! While those changes will still take some getting used to, the cause is pretty obvious, albeit grim. This major growth of the League is just a tiny ripple effect of the coronavirus pandemic, which has forced many people in the countries players live in to seek online entertainment and...

Season 40 - Championship Recap

Mic Qsenoch vs. nasmith99

The Season 40 Championship featured the top 2 A division players Mic Qsenoch and nasmith99. Mic Qsenoch had just finished a dominant regular season, going 21-9 against five of the strongest players in the League. nasmith99 also had a winning season, going 16-14 and barely sneaking into the Championship match based on a tiebreaker over xyrix, who finished with the same record. As such, nasmith could only afford to tie one of the six games, while Mic just needed to win one (or tie two). That said, neither of them let these circumstances drastically affect their mindsets, mostly taking each...

Season 40 - Newsletter

Quarantines Lead to Explosive Growth

Hello everyone, Season 39 started in mid-March, as lockdowns around the world were coming into effect. It was, unsurprisingly, our biggest season ever. But that was apparently just the beginning. This last Friday, the first day that we advertised in the client for Season 40, we got a total of 181 new signups. For reference, we got only 140 new signups for the entirety of Season 39, with just 30 of those on the day of the client advertisement. We immediately knew we were in for another big ballooning of numbers in the League. Just four days later, we’re up...

Season 39 - Newsletter

The First Eight-Tier Season

Hello everyone, Season 39 will be the first Dominion League season with eight tiers. As I’ve been explaining to people, the easiest way to think about it is that we’ve added tiers D/E and E/F, and then renamed all of the tiers to just the letters A through H. In fact, the E and F transition schemes from Season 38 are the exact same as the F and H transition schemes going forward, so it’s really as if E and F players were already in F and H, respectively. Here are those transition schemes again: Other Changes Apart from this...
